Blast Furnace

Air Products offers a range of gas-based technologies and a full line of industrial gases, including oxygen and nitrogen to assist with your blast furnace operation. Oxygen can be injected into the blast furnace to improve combustion and facilitate the supplemental injection of pulverized coal or natural gas to reduce coke costs. We can also supply nitrogen to help you safely and effectively blowdown your furnace. The best solution for your process depends on many factors, such as your existing blast furnace’s operating parameters, coke costs, and production goals. Our applications engineers can help you implement tailored systems to meet your specific needs.

Nitrogen

Oxygen

Oxygen is required for any combustion process. By supplementing or replacing combustion air with oxygen, overall combustion can be improved through increased heat transfer, higher flame temperatures and reduced volume of flue gases. Oxygen can be injected into the blast furnace to improve combustion and facilitate the supplemental injection of pulverized coal or natural gas to reduce coke costs. Oxygen can be supplied from a dedicated plant located at or near a your facility. Or, we can supplement your existing supply with a bulk supply of liquid oxygen delivered by truck. We can help you optimize oxygen usage for your blast furnace operation and can provide you with the most economical mode of supply based on your consumption patterns.

A cryogenic air separation plant is used to supply oxygen for iron/steel and non-ferrous metal production. Air Products works closely with the customer to integrate the air separation plant with the metal producers’ process to provide the most energy efficient and cost effective design. Our combustion technologists, industry engineers, and modeling specialists have decades of experience in oxygen-based technologies and can work with you to develop and test at full scale actual combustion and gasification systems using a full spectrum of gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels. Our Advanced Clean Energy Laboratory enables live, remote participation in testing via online video and data sharing.
