Air Products drivers are committed to being the best in the industry. Upholding the “safety first” philosophy and the highest professional standards, Air Products Malaysia driver Sarveswaren Ramu recently won the championship at the inaugural Scania Driver Competition Southeast Asia 2016 – 2017 in the truck category. He came first in a series of challenging tests which involved driving a Scania truck attached to a trailer that carried a 40ft container.
Scania is one of the world’s leading manufacturer of heavy trucks and buses. The Scania Driver Competitions aim to elevate the status and prestige of heavy commercial vehicle drivers by recognizing them as true unsung heroes. Since 2003, more than 350,000 truck drivers in nearly 50 countries have participated in the competitions, which focus on increasing road-safety awareness, improving fuel consumption and minimising the environmental impact of commercial vehicles.
At this year’s competition, contestants tackled various timed maneuvering tasks including the “Knock the Cone” precision test and “Boardwalk” obstacle test. Contestants had to demonstrate their skills including knocking down specified cones while keeping others standing, and forward and reverse driving with one side of the vehicle’s wheels on a plank.
