Air Products Spreads Care to School Children in Malaysia
Volunteers demonstrate our commitment to the local community during primary school visit
Children are our future. When we brighten their lives, we maintain the health and vitality of our communities. Driven by our strong commitment to sustainable growth, Air Products regularly participates in charitable efforts that make a positive difference to children’s education. On 12 January 2016, we extended our care to the students at a primary school in Malaysia.
The primary school is situated in a rural area and equipped with minimal facilities. Its 290 students share two run-down classrooms and a small canteen that can hold only 10 persons. There are no shelters for classroom breaks and no sports field. Moreover, both students and teachers rely on rain water as the only water source. However, the school lacks sufficient funds for refurbishment or expansion of its facilities.
With great enthusiasm, 38 volunteers from Air Products Malaysia and Singapore cleaned and painted the school’s only two classrooms to create a more uplifting learning environment. We also brought snacks and drinks for the children to enjoy while playing quiz games together. In addition, we contributed story books to help the school set up a mini library and donated funds for student activities.
“Caring for our communities is a long-term commitment for our company, and one that we take seriously,” said Alex Tan, president, Southeast Asia Industrial Gases, Air Products. “We recognize the integral role that education plays in a community’s sustainable growth, and therefore we are grateful for this opportunity to create a positive impact on students. We will continue to contribute our time and resources to make the children and other members in our local communities feel the love from society.”
